Year 13 Assignment: Should the UK increase its investment
in nuclear power?
Format: PowerPoint presentation
Deadline: Presentations will be given on Tuesday 19th July 2005
during Periods 3 and 4 (Mr Brindle’s lesson – Mr Lea-Wilson will also be
present)
Marking criteria:
- One slide with a clear explanation of nuclear
power station operation
- Causes and consequences of one nuclear incident (eg
Windscale, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island etc)
- Outline of one competing technology to nuclear:
either renewable or non-renewable
- One slide comparing whole-life costs (in pence
per kilowatt-hour) of nuclear power with one competing technology, eg
wind or solar or coal
- One slide answering the assignment question
“Should the UK increase its investment in nuclear power?” with reasons
- One slide with References of books and websites
consulted.
